As some of you may know, Apple have disabled java on 10.6.8. We depend on java to work within our environment. Is there a way to re-enable Java on 10.6.8?
This issue has forced our hand at updating the remaining macs which were on 10.6.x to 10.7.8.However, there is a fix out for this for those wishing to stay on 10.6.x
Java update 7 update release 13.

I think this is what you're looking for.

I literally just resolved a similar issue at my shop using the download found here: http:/
Best of luck to you!
@Matt — That download only works with Lion and Mountain Lion, not Snow Leopard.
Do this in terminal:
sudo /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "Delete :JavaWebComponentVersionMinimum" /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/XProtect.meta.plist

Why did you apply the update knowing that it would interfere with your workflow, without proper prior testing and planning for remediation ??
See http:/
David, think you could save your preachy tone and try offering some actual help?
This was a surprise actually, since the workaround of re-enabling Java 6 from Apple (in 10.7/10.8 machine) doesn't work anymore, and for those on 10.6.8 the Java Pref pane enabling check box does not work anymore either! It's actually a deep plist edit that needs to be done to re-enable.
Der Flounder explains quite well what happened:

Here's an Apple discussion with the command needed:

And I meant what I said: Why apply updates just because they're there, in any business environment,
That's not a "Mac" anything, it applies to any OS of course.
If you need the older version of Java in 10.7 or 10.8 then yes it's more work, but otherwise the official path is to get the current Java from Oracle.
The update was a silent update from Apple, there was no opportunity to test it and no warning.

Again, to clarify: Apple isn't disabling Java, they're disabling the Java plugin for web-browsers.
I strongly recommend against disabling the Xprotect mechanism. However - at your own risk - and if you truly must, see
https:/
I just installed the developers version of Java from apple's developer site and it resolved all my issues with the new java web start not working.
which is not being blocked by their XProtect mechanism.
Guys, thanks for your time on this thread. We had a user with a home Mac on 10.6 with this issue - you saved us a lot of head scratching. ;-)
